Privacy Policy

Finance Tracker is operated by the publisher named below. This policy explains how the app handles information when you use it.

Summary

Finance Tracker is designed to work without creating an account or sending your financial records to our servers. Your financial entries are stored on your device. The app offers optional local notifications and user-initiated backup and export features. If you share an export to another service, that service handles the copy you send under its own privacy practices.

The app does report limited technical diagnostics about its own performance and stability. Those diagnostics never include your financial records. Section §4 describes exactly what they cover.

Information you enter and store

The app can store the following information locally on your device when you choose to enter or configure it:

  • A preferred display name for the app’s greeting.
  • Financial records, including account names, account types, balances, currencies, exchange rates, transaction amounts, transaction types, dates, times, categories, payees, notes, and transfer relationships.
  • Custom category names, colours, and icon choices.
  • App preferences, including onboarding state, notification choices and times, notification thresholds, and security settings.
  • Backup files or imported financial data that you choose to export or import.

This information may be sensitive financial information. You should use care when entering free-text payees or notes and when exporting your data.

How the app uses information

The app uses locally stored information to provide its features, including to:

  • Display account balances, net worth, cash flow, transaction histories, calendar entries, category totals, and trends.
  • Create and manage expenses, income, and transfers.
  • Provide search and filtering within the app.
  • Schedule local reminders and alerts if you enable notifications.
  • Create an export or process an import that you initiate.
  • Enable optional passcode and biometric access controls.

Where information is stored and shared

On-device storage. The app stores its active financial database locally on your device. The current app does not require a user account and does not implement server-based account sync, bank connections, or advertising integrations. We do not receive a copy of the financial records you enter merely because you use the app.

Diagnostics and app performance data. The app includes Expo’s application monitoring, which reports technical information about how the app itself is running — such as the app version, device model, operating-system version, launch and screen-load timings, and crash or stability diagnostics — to Expo as our service provider. The app also contacts Expo to check for over-the-air updates. This information is about the software, not about your money: it does not include your transactions, balances, accounts, categories, payees, or notes. We use it to find crashes and fix performance problems.

Device and platform services. The app uses operating-system services to provide functions such as notifications, secure credential storage, biometric authentication, file picking, file sharing, and screen-capture prevention. Those services may process information according to your device settings and the privacy policies of your operating-system provider or app store.

Notifications. Notifications are optional. If you grant permission and enable them, the app schedules reminders and alerts locally on your device. Notification content may be visible on your device’s lock screen or notification surface depending on your device settings. You can disable notifications in the app or in your device settings.

Exporting your data. You may export a SQLite database backup (.db) or a JSON backup (.json) through your device’s sharing sheet. The app provides the file only after you initiate the export and choose a destination, such as Files, email, or a cloud-storage service.

Exported files can contain your financial data and may not be encrypted by the app. Once you send a file to another app, service, person, or storage provider, that recipient’s privacy and security practices apply. You are responsible for selecting a secure destination and protecting the exported file.

Importing data. If you choose to import a compatible Wallet Manager backup, the app reads the selected file on your device, presents a review step, and writes the records you select to the app’s local database. The app does not send the selected import file to us as part of this process.

Security controls

The app offers the following optional protections:

  • A 4-digit app passcode. The active passcode credential is stored as a salted hash using the device’s secure storage.
  • Optional Face ID or fingerprint unlock where supported and enrolled on the device. A passcode is required before biometric unlock can be enabled.
  • App locking when the app enters the background after passcode protection is enabled.
  • Masking of app content in the app switcher or recents view, and screen-capture prevention while passcode protection is enabled.

These measures help protect access to information displayed by the app. No security measure is absolute, and you are responsible for protecting your device, operating-system passcode, backups, and exported files.

Data retention and deletion

Your data remains on your device until you delete it, delete the app, or use the app’s Clear All Data control.

The Clear All Data control permanently deletes the app’s local accounts, categories, transactions, settings, and related local database content, then returns the app to onboarding. This action cannot be undone through the app.

If you exported or shared a backup, deleting data from the app does not delete copies stored with another app, service, account, device, or recipient. Delete those copies separately.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed to children under the age at which consent is required to use an online service in their jurisdiction. Because the app does not provide an account-based service or collect financial records to our servers through ordinary use, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child has provided information to us directly, contact us using the details below.

Your choices

You can:

  • Choose not to enter particular information.
  • Change your display name, accounts, categories, currencies, notification preferences, and security settings in the app.
  • Disable notification permission in your device settings.
  • Export a copy of your data before changing devices or deleting the app.
  • Delete a transaction, custom category, account, or all local app data, subject to the app’s available controls.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, applicable law, or our practices change. We will post the revised version on the website and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes to how financial information is handled should be reviewed carefully before release.
